Tech Spotlight | OARO Plant (BC): Smarter, Energy-Efficient Desalination
At QT Enviro-Tech, we are proud to showcase the successful results of our latest pilot project featuring the Osmotically Assisted Reverse Osmosis (OARO) Plant with Brine Concentration (BC) membrane technology. This innovative solution offers a smarter, more energy-efficient approach to high-salinity wastewater treatment and desalination.
Pilot Test Highlights
Our pilot system, equipped with 26 OARO (BC) membrane elements, demonstrated impressive performance under challenging conditions involving high-salinity and complex feedwater. Key outcomes included:
Stable and consistent system performance
Strong adaptability to varying feedwater compositions
Exceptional membrane durability and lifespan
Advanced Technology for Enhanced Brine Concentration
OARO is a cutting-edge membrane process engineered to treat high-salinity brines that exceed the capabilities of conventional reverse osmosis (RO) systems. While traditional RO systems typically concentrate brine to around 7% NaCl, OARO technology utilizes osmotic pressure gradients to achieve concentrations of 15–20% NaCl or higher.
Significant Energy and Cost Savings
By achieving higher brine concentrations, the OARO system significantly reduces the volume and salinity burden for downstream thermal processes such as evaporation and crystallization. This translates into:
Substantial energy savings
Lower operational costs
Improved overall system efficiency
